This week.....

Well you never quite know whats going to happen in any given week - this week on Monday morning in the CBD at 8.20am - Melbourne has been rocked with the shooting of two gentlemen who came to the assistance of a woman who was being pulled out of a cab by her hair whilst she was struggling with a man. One of the guys was a 43 year old lawyer on his way to work, 3 kids, doing what I would like to think most of us would do, he came to the aid of another human who needed it - he was shot and died on site. The second guy was a Danish backpacker, he is in a stable condition in hospital (he is now out of ICU!). Welcome to Australia!!!!!

Its unfolding into a somewhat long and twisted story with two young girl friends, who had been brought up in middle class Melbourne, studying fine art and one working in strip joints getting caught up with a guy who just turned out to be a violent monster.

The story has fascinated me and I have followed it closely, I think I just wonder why - and how someone turns into such a creature who can tip to being so out of control. We have seen his seemingly normal parents on TV pleading to turn himself in (which he did thankfully yesterday afternoon), he has a history of violence is seems, and is a member of the Hells Angels. What motivates someone into random acts of violence, and how tragic that the wrong people were in the wrong place at the wrong time - doing something that I hope people don't stop doing - coming to the aid of a fellow human being.

Its rocked Melbourne, and its made us think - we in Australia are not immune from this behaviour which we woudl commonly associate with the US..... What have we created? Are the common day stresses pushing people over the edge?

Its a ramble, and it probably doesn't make a lot of sense - but something happened this week which reminded me that I am human, that life is fickle, that life can be snatched from us at any time, that its up to us to live to to the fullest......
